We Never Said Goodbye (Song #112)

We Never Said Goodbye

Hold your wishes close
And let the regrets go
I stood here waiting
But you did not show

Now I have taken steps
And I have moved ahead
Some things are just better unspoken
They’re just better left unsaid

We never said goodbye
I wasn’t looking to bring you down
I didn’t walk away
You just never came around
I’ve wondered why you couldn’t try
But still we never said goodbye

Keep (the) broken promises
Let loose all the chains
You’ve been holding all the cards
I been playing all the games

Now I may have seen it all
Though you have shut the blinds
I’m not afraid of what I’ll lose
You’ve shown me what I’d find

We never said goodbye
I wasn’t looking to bring you down
I didn’t walk away
You just never came around
I’ve wondered why you couldn’t try
But still we never said goodbye

Is there nothing so revealing as a moment of “what if?”
Is there nothing so concealing as a moment of regret?

We never said goodbye
I wasn’t looking to bring you down
I didn’t walk away
You just never came around
I’ve wondered why you couldn’t try
But still we never said goodbye

My Father's Suit Coat

I have not shared much here in a good while that was not music related, or, more specifically, a song, but something happened a couple of days ago that has nothing to do with music that I want to quickly share.

The other night we saw the excellent film, "Saving Mr. Banks."  I have no recollection of anything related to "Mary Poppins" as it relates to my dad, but for some strange reason while watching the film I had this very strong sense of him at one point.

The scene was simply one in which Tom Hanks, in the role of Walt Disney, was sitting next to someone - not a child - wearing a very well pressed, dark suit. For some reason at that very moment I had this very strong and detailed sense of what it had been like when I was very little and my parents would take me to synagogue and at the end of the service my father would pick me up and hold me.  I could actually recall the smell of Dad's jacket.  Note that Dad's jacket was a much lighter brown in color and more of a tweed so I cannot find a direct connection to what I saw in the movie.  But, regardless, the scent of the clean pressed wool was very present to me at that moment.  Even more so than the sense of his embrace.

It was strange, wonderful, and entirely unexpected; and it reminded not just how much I miss Dad but also how things of no seeming relation can remind me of him and take me back to wonderful places and the memories I have of him.

Toe The Lines (song #111)

Toe The Lines

I
Don't know why
I keep telling(falling for?) the same lies
All the time

Cannot deny
That every time you cried
I would hide

Toe the lines

You
Just can't do
All the simple truths
You used to

You
Worked it through
So it was shining new
Just for you

Toe the lines

Just because you can
Doesn't mean you should
Just because you're in the lead
Doesn't make you good

Toe the lines

We
Don't believe
The things that we still see
In our dreams

We
Lost our need
To give and not receive
Anything

Toe the lines

One Love (song #110)

One love

Something deep within me
Feels so empty
When I feel I'm losing you

Setting all beside me
Trust is unrelenting
When I don't know what to do

Needing a direction
Any kind of affection (attention?)
Just (to) get me through the day

Searching just inside me
Where I cannot hide me
My dissonance resonates

(But) this one love that you give
Is all I need
This one love that I live
From you to me
This one love
One love

Shouting from high above
What I must be thinking of
Takes all my breath away

In a moment passing
Nothing's everlasting
Yet this feels just that way

(But) this one love that you give
Is all I need
This one love that I live
From you to me
This one love
One love

Calm my heart
Reset restart
Calm my head
Remove retread
Call my soul
Replace re-know
Calm my love
Relearn re-touch

(But) this one love that you give
Is all I need
This one love that I live
From you to me
This one love
One love
